What is the significance of the ABGMVM affiliation?

Our Academy is recognised and affiliated to ABGMVM - one of India's oldest and most prestigious boards for classical arts. Certification from this body is nationally and internationally recognized, providing students with a valid academic equivalent to diplomas,degree and Master/Post graduate degree in Kathak.

What are the benefits of learning Kathak?

It improves physical fitness, stamina, and coordination while fostering cultural awareness, discipline, emotional expression and provides artistic fulfilment.

What is the curriculum structure?

We follow the standardized ABGMVM syllabus, which balances practical dance, theory, and stage performance. The journey starts from foundational footwork (Tatkar) and progresses to complex rhythmic patterns and expressive storytelling (Abhinaya).

Enrollment & Eligibility

What is the minimum age to start?

We recommend starting at age 6 or above. By this age, children usually have the necessary body awareness and focus for structured training.

Am I too old to start as an adult? /s there an upper age limit for adults?

Not at all. Kathak has no age limit. Anyone can learn and master Kathak with regular practice and dedication at any age;many adults and seniors start learning for fitness, passion, or cultural connection. We welcome learners of all ages—20s, 30s, or even 50.

Do I need prior dance experience?

No. Beginner batches are specifically designed for those with no prior background, starting with foundational postures and basic footwork. However, advanced diploma or degree courses often require proof of previous training or a practical audition.

Classes & Training

How long does it take to master Kathak?

Mastery is a lifelong journey. However, completing a graduation (Visharad) typically takes 7 years of dedicated practice.

What should I wear to class?

Comfortable Indian attire, such as a salwar-kameez or kurta-churidar (As per Class dresss code). Dancers practice barefoot.

When do I need Ghungroos (ankle bells)?

Beginners usually start without them to focus on correct foot placement. Guru will advise when you are ready to transition to wearing bells.

Can I learn Kathak online?

Yes, We offer live virtual sessions or self-paced video courses that are effective if you have a stable internet connection and adequate practice space; however, we do not recommend.

How much practice (Riyaz) is required?
Consistent daily practice is vital. Beginners are encouraged to practice each lesson 5–10 times before their next class to build a strong foundation.

Exams & Certification

Are there formal exams?
Yes. We are affiliated with Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, which conducts graded examinations from introductory levels to postgraduate degrees.
What are the levels of Kathak exams?
The curriculum generally follows 7 levels: Prarambhik (Basic), Praveshika (Elementary), Madhyama (Intermediate), and Visharad (Graduation).
When can I perform on stage?
Students usually participate in annual academy showcases after their first year. Professional solo performance readiness depends on individual talent and years of rigorous training.
What career paths are available?
Our qualified dancers can pursue careers as professional performers, dance teachers in schools or private studios, choreographers for films or stage, or researchers in the performing arts.
